Global Preservation Projects was founded in 1989 to help preserve environmental and historic treasures. Formerly known as Thomas I. Morse Photographic Expeditions founded in 1978. GPP's current workshops are aimed at assisting the participants to produce exhibition quality results and educating them about the need to preserve environmental and historic sites for future generations. Photographs of Bodie by GPP's Executive Director, Staff and workshop participants have been exhibited at the Santa Monica College Gallery, The Allen Augustine Gallery, Nikon House in New York, The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite, Bridgeport Library, Sunset Publishing Corporate Offices, the San Jose Jet Center, the Palo Alto Medical clinic and large number were acquired by the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris.

In 1989 GPP began to produce magazine articles to help promote public awareness to preserve environmental and historic treasures. Articles published featuring GPP include: Parklands, Nikon World, View Camera Magazine, Earthtreks, Photography Today, Rangefinder, Leica View, Outdoor Photographer, Sunset Magazine and National Geographic books.

In 1990 GPP published the book "Photographing Bodie" a photographers' guide to the Ghost town of Bodie, California. GPP has since published a series of photographic handbooks for its workshop participants on Arches & Canyonlands, Big Sur, Bodie, Bryce, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, France, Tonopah NV, Point Reyes, The Southwest, Silverton & Durango, Slot Canyons, Monument Valley, Yosemite and Zion. In addition, GPP has written the "Photographers Field Manual" and the "Digital Basics for Photographers" as a reference for those taking workshops.

GPP has become well known for conducting very well thought-out workshops. GPP chooses locations based on factors like the one hundred-year weather averages and the sun angles in an effort to insure the best conditions possible for the participant. GPP supplies a very complete handbook on the location as well as Digital Basics for Photographers and phone instruction before the workshops to help prepare you for the workshop. Most Workshops will feature Multiple exposure, night shoots under a full moon, basic PhotoShop instruction, digital panoramas and many other special techniques.
